Tooth Decay and Sensitivity

What Causes Tooth Enamel Damage?

What happens when tooth enamel is damaged? The exposed part underneath becomes vulnerable to decay. Cavities aren't the only problem.

Teeth with damaged enamel can become sensitive to extreme temperatures. Suddenly, eating ice cream or sipping hot coffee can be painful or unpleasant.

Dental Crowns Dentist

Your Crown is Completed in One Appointment

CEREC 1 Day Crowns - Process You may have had a need for a crown in the past and went through all the steps to have the procedure completed. First there is the preparation of the tooth, then an impression, and while your permanent crown is being made, a temporary restoration is placed in your mouth. After a two-week waiting period, you go to the dentist again for the installation of the permanent crown. Sometimes it does not fit properly and is sent back to the lab, which results in more waiting time for you. And then there is one more visit to the dentist.

CEREC TechnologyYou will be very pleased to know that technology has changed what was formerly a time-consuming procedure. With CEREC™ technology, you can receive a crown from start to finish in just one visit. CEREC is a milling device that provides a computerized design to give you the perfect-fitting crown. It does so in just a matter of one appointment! No return visits or waiting! Our patients’ reactions – they love it!

The entire procedure with CEREC takes about an hour. There are no more impressions to take or temporaries to create. It provides what patients want and need – a durable and natural looking restoration that is accomplished in just one visit.

CEREC Dental RestorationsUsing the CEREC technology, we apply a reflective powder on the tooth. With a high-tech camera, a picture is taken and immediately ready for viewing on a computer screen. We initially design the crown and CEREC creates it. The crown is then bonded to the remaining tooth structure. What could be faster and easier?

How Enamel Protects Your Teeth

What Causes Tooth Enamel Damage?
Enamel is kind of like the shell of an egg: it protects the softer, more vulnerable part of the tooth inside.
But unlike an eggshell, the thin layer of enamel is tough.

In fact, enamel is the hardest substance in the body. It can withstand decades of biting, chewing and crunching -- with some luck and good dental care.

Dental Implant Dentist

Dental Implants Dentistry El Cajon CA
Dental Implants for Missing Teeth
The best replacements for lost teeth are dental implants. In the front of the mouth, where everyone can see them, to the back, where you need stable teeth to chew any food, implants can help you recapture a beautiful and healthy smile. Bridges and dentures sit on top of the gums, but because dental implants are placed under the gums and into the jaw bone, they come up through the gums just like your original teeth. For patients who are qualified candidates, implants can replace as little as one missing tooth, or as many as a mouthful. You could completely replace your dentures with solid, unmoving teeth that are placed permanently. After an oral surgeon places a titanium post, our doctors will custom-create natural-looking restorations to place on top. These will match the rest of your teeth, function just like the originals, and be impossible for anyone to detect! Get the smile you deserve – permanently!

Grinding Teeth

What Causes Tooth Enamel Damage?
Another cause of tooth enamel damage is bruxism -- or teeth-grinding. Over time, the constant clenching and friction can wear down or fracture the enamel. In this slide, teeth grinding has ground down the upper and lower front teeth.

Bruxism is often worst when you sleep -- that's when you can't control it. Reducing stress may help. Some people wear a special mouth guard to bed.

White Dental Fillings

No More Mercury or Metal!White Dental Fillings - Tooth Colored Fillings
You may be familiar with the silver-mercury amalgam that is the filling material frequently used for dental restorations. Although it works reasonably well for a filling, it does not form a tight bond with teeth, which could result in eventual decay. Patients do not like how noticeable these fillings are, as they contrast highly with the shade of their teeth. Today, we use only composite fillings that match the shade of the tooth, contain no metal, and bond very tightly with the tooth structure. It adds to the strength of the tooth and lessens the chance of decay.
